The termite notice in the meter box
What the termite management notice tells you, and what it means when there is none.
In short: Inside most meter boxes there should be a small durable notice. When we cannot find it, you lose the history of the house's termite protection.
What the notice is
The NCC requires a durable notice, usually in the meter box, recording the termite management system installed, when it was installed and what maintenance it needs.
What we found
At a Pakenham building and pest inspection there was no termite management notice in the meter box.
Why it matters to a buyer
Without it you do not know whether the house has a chemical or physical system, when it was last renewed, or whether it needs attention now.
At frame stage too
On new builds we check that the physical barrier under external walls is installed when due. On one Pakenham frame it had not yet been fitted at inspection.
What to do
Ask the vendor for any treatment records. If none exist, a licensed pest manager can advise on a system.
